German Development Service in Zambia - On a Mission to Support the People
Welcome to the website of German Development Service (DED) in Zambia.
On the following pages, you will find information concerning DED's country program, including projects, partners and contact information.
On the 11th of April in 1968 the agreement between the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Government of the Republic of Zambia on the Dispatch of Volunteers of the German Volunteer Service - today known as the German Development Service (DED - Deutscher Entwicklungsdienst) was put into force. Since then DED has seconded several hundreds of advisors who have successfully supported numerous development projects throughout the country.
DED employs professionals as advisors who use their expertise, social competence and dedication to support local institutions and project partners for sustainable development. Currently there are about 25 advisors and 5 junior advisors in Zambia. In 2008, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development launched a new volunteers program called "weltwärts" for young people between 21 and 27 years of age. DED as one of the sending agencies for the weltwärts program is currently in charge of 15 young volunteers throughout Zambia.
DED advisors in Zambia work in the following sectors:
- Water and Sanitation
- Good Governance (Governance, State and Civil Society and Decentralisation).
DED also addresses the challenges of HIV and AIDS in all its activities.
